For me, fashion and design are inseparable things, since I am engaged in professional tailoring for cosplay. I have seen a lot of the most unusual shapes for dresses and suits. Therefore, there is nothing unusual for me in this world. Recently, I even bought a lot of different colored eye contacts on the Myeyebb website to start doing cosplay in person. |
Major: Art & Design Department (This Major's Salary over time)
I studied at FIT for about 5 months. I came in for a student exchange programme, in fashion design apparel, from the UK so i was only there for one semester. I will say this was the best semester in my entire education. My university, University of Southampton, in the UK is a crap one. I felt so defeated until i moved to new york for this programme and nothing was the same after. I overloaded myself with construction classes because that is what i felt i was lacking over at my uni in the uk. I eventually had to withdraw from some classes so i could handle the workload. The only class i couldn't really follow was swimwear, that was because working with swimwear fabric was difficult for me but others did quite well. Anyway, I grew so much confidence in the 5 months i was there and learned so much. For the past two years, i kept applying the teachings and since then i have been constantly improving. I am currently doing better than majority of the people in my year because of my ability to bring my ideas to life from 2d designs. I would recommend this place, if you are hardworking and very passionate about what exactly you are trying to achieve. You wont regret it unless you initially don't have a clear objective and goal. Take every moment seriously, the best thing about the place is the facilities. They are available even up until 2am which is truly heaven for me as i eat sleep and breathe fashion design. Do not go to FIT is you dont have the drive to be at a work station or sewing machine till 2am. The worst experience would be the accommodation rules and building cleaners. The cleaners can throw your tools away right in front of you if you're not vigilant at late hours. Accommodation rules are ridiculous, i'm used to a lot more freedom and privacy in the uk. You may end up with a crazy person as a roommate but that can happen anywhere. I recommend FIT for passionate and hard working people.
