I am from Wilmington, NC, and chose to come to UNCW because of the cost and close location to family. UNCW is not a college you want to come to, and shouldn't send your students to. The University overall is horrible at communication with students, and between departments. I enrolled in class in the srping of '11 and in the fall of '11 almost had my classes dropped because UNCW did not contact me in the spring about medical paper work! I had to quickly get some medicial testing done or my classes would have been cancelled for that semester-without refund!

I wanted to change my major and I had to go talk to 3 different departments before it could happen. Now I am a PE major and the program here stinks. Two professors shouldn't be teaching anymore: they are only concerned with their activities outside class, and they are out-dated from current teaching practices. My classes with Dr. Combs and Dr. Bennett are worthless. They don't teach or lecture well at all. Dr. Bennett's classes are all the same, and you'll learn more about him than any topic he teaches. They are very friendly outside class, and will help you if you are a great student.

Many other students I talk to here say that other programs are a waste of time, I guess everyone has to take classes, spend money, and waste time on pointless classes that have nothing to do with your major.

Also, advisors are not helpful here. They are the teachers, and they don't help you figure out your college path! They rush you through the process to get you out of their office so they can get back to better things. This happened with 3 different majors I had, not just one.

Don't come to UNCW. This school is still figuring out how to operate. Go to a University that is well established! ECU, UNC, UNC Charlotte, Greensboro, and NC State are all other fine options.

ECU? Well established? If you are considering going to UNCW and reading this, don't listen to this guy! ECU is in an absolutely TERRIBLE area of Greenville, and it's not the best school, either. I live near Greenville, and the only people I know who apply/attend ECU aren't there for the academics, but rather the partying. The only dignified thing about the school is their Nursing and Medical programs, which are possibly the best in the state. Otherwise, ECU is absolutely horrid.
