I am a big fan of Northwestern. It was definitely not my first choice when I was a senior in high school, and I'm not entirely sure what it was about the university (website, programs, campus visit, gorgeous lakefront beach) that made me decide to ultimately come here. But I did. And it has been the best decision of my life. Of course there are those days when I don't understand why science teachers write tests hoping for a 50% average just to that they have the power to curve how many students they want to pass. And there are those cold, windy, cloudy, rainy days that come in 3s or 4s at a time that make me a little grudging about NU. But what I've loved best is the size - it's easy to walk across campus and blend in, see two hundred strangers, and retain that sense of anonymity; but without fail, you'll bump into someone you know from a class, from your dorm, from a club activity, from a random meeting; and that smile and greeting will brighten your walk (even on one of those rainy days). I also love the balance between work and play. We are Chicago's BigTen team, and certainly have our ups and our downs (mostly our team's inability to finish a football game that they started out really well!) but most people are spirited and go to football games and basketball games and cheer pretty hard for the 'CATS. And almost everyone is pretty focused on school. There are a few, albeit hard-to-find, easy courses every term. The reqs are broad, but make for a great education. And everyone's college experience really is what they make it. If you're a social person, motivated, and willing to challenge yourself in new ways, you'll thrive, make friends, and probably do pretty well here at NU.
