I was born and raised in southern ca. (so-cal) and was dumb enough at 18 yrs old to think everywhere in CA in the same. Beware socal-ers! There are still a species alive known as hippies and they gather in large number in and aorund the santa cruz area! the don't shave, wear deodorant, have dreadlocks (even the white ones), and hate people who are "superficial"- whatever that means to them on any given day. Some are chill and friendly and even funny, but others are rude, arrogant, and hateful to us normal people who drive cars (killing the enviroment) and follow societal norms.

It was quite cultural shock for this LA girl but after 4 yrs in this crazy hippie town i learned to really love it. Although I would never go back to Santa cruz to live or learn it is the best city to come of age in as you live in a bubble on top a hill overlooking the ocean with real chill people who know how to party :)

Responses
responseI like the people in Santa Cruz for a number of reasons. One is that while they know how to party, they are also intelligent and have the talents to learn. You can have intelligent discussions with them. The reason why I personally refuse to attend a university with a high acceptance rate is because it wouldn't be the right fit for me because most students aren't capable of having intelligent discussions.
