When i first heard the name Stony Brook University it brought to my undergraduate mind the image of a golden stream that ran near the ocean through the middle of a beautiful piece of earth called Long island. But soon after arriving i found the stream was on a grossly overpopulated and commercialized island, not really within a short walking distance from water you could relax in, and the brook was golden colored because of all the pollution at the bottom of the water. First things first: The unviersity administation is only conserned about money and that is so disgusting. Oh there are so many places to start why this university can depress you beyond belief and make you want to run away from higher education forever. But i will not go into all my problems: just a few quick examples. First off, after just a week in class, i wanted to drop two of my classes and the university would only reinburse me 30%. If i wanted to switch my class to another one, i would have to lose the money on the old classes and pay full price on the new classes. Also, the enviorment is also disheartending to the learning expierence. From my opinion the majority of the students do not appear to really be engaged with learning, and they are only here for the degree. That is just my obsevation that i believe is very true but thats my opinion. Overall, the depressing atmosphere of the campus comes from the fact that most of the campus is covered in gross 70's archetcutre, and though some buildings could be called attractive, many are more repulsive to the eyes and nose indoors(and out)then prisons. So that is simply a quick glimpse of the university from my perspective. If you want to live your college years in depressive mediocrity looking back on those years with regret, then go to SBU. If you want to come to a place that encourages you to learn for learning's sake and get a degree in the process, stay the hell away from Shitty Brook Univesity.
