I decided to come to Fairfield for two reasons: they gave me a full ride and had a very hands on film program I was interested in (which by the way, is great if you're looking into it). However, Fairfield would not have even been on my radar without the money that was given to me. If you are considering paying 50k to come to this school, you should probably think again.

One very annoying part about Fairfield is the core. It accounts for nearly half of the classes you will be taking at Fairfield. Since middle school, I have known that I have disliked classes in science, math, and language, but if I decide to stay at Fairfield they will account for 6 of my classes - a whole semester's worth. However, I did enjoy some of my core classes such as philosophy, but I probably would have taken that as an elective at another school anyways. A lot of my classes were not very challenging, as I ended the year with a 3.85 GPA and didn't do much work. However, stay away from the Latin department, the system is very messed up and more than 3/4 of the class (including myself) had to drop out, including a guy who took Latin for 4 years in high school.

The city of Fairfield is not very exciting, there's cute restaurants and a Pinkberry, but if you don't drink I wish you the best of luck because you'll probably spend your weekends in your room watching movies with your friends while drunk kids scream in your hallway until 4am. I drank nearly every weekend because there is virtually nothing else to do, unless you have a car (which you won't, because you can't have one on campus until junior year). However you can get to NYC and back for $20 by train, which I did about 4 times and would have done more if I had the money.

You will encounter a lot of close-minded, snooty rich people. But you will also meet a lot of sweet, understanding classmates who aren't as rich, as well as mixes between the two. To stereotype Fairfield as a snooty rich-kid school is unfair, although I can understand why people would say that. I'm far from rich and could never afford this school without my full ride, and I know a lot of people are in the same boat.

The one thing I was disappointed with was the lack of diversity. Fairfield is pretty "cookie cutter" when it comes to people. I had hoped college would open me up to new experiences and new kids of people, but that did not happen whatsoever. I did meet a handful of really great friends though and we had a lot of fun.

All in all, Fairfield is an okay school if you are Catholic, not looking for diversity, and like drinking. If I didn't have my scholarship/financial aid I would transfer in a heartbeat.
