The professors have and will continue to be amazing. They really do care about the students and try to help them succeed in whatever field they wish to pursue.

HOWEVER, the administration is horrible. They give money and support students, but only select ones. These students are given special treatment when registering for classes and in getting into labs. While they insist they want people to take classes outside the major, they use the honors minor to give students special treatment. If you actually listen to them and try to do a double major or classes outside of a busy major, you must rely on being a favorite of the professor teaching the class or hope honors students do not get the course.

Also, the school pretends to be more environmentally friendly than they really are. Natural lands would be gone had a professor not found a way to make them somewhat profitable. NY state standards are about similar for gold LEED rating, so the touting of gold buildings is meaningless. Food is rarely bought locally, and the company used to run dining halls actively tries to stop students that want to from organizing to get deals on local foods.

And finally, you better like sports. Instead of doing things that would upgrade outdated systems in dorms or buildings, Ithaca used the money to build a giant eyesore of a building for athletics. It literally looks like a middle finger pointing towards Cornell. Meanwhile dorms built in the 1950s are inefficiently using energy and driving up costs for the college. They also destroyed a natural wetland in order to build the giant middle finger.

Really, Ithaca has some awesome professors and cool students. You will get a good education. But the school is run just like a corporate. Give us your money, take whatever you can fit in, and if you are a student leader that doesn't like it, we'll put you in honors program so you don't complain about it.
