Umass is a great school, especially because it has become very competitive in the past couple years. As a premed major, I am doing alot of work most the time, but I still have time to go hang out with people everyday and go to the gym and drink. My coursework is alittle too much though because exams are very difficult in the science department.

Bad parts about the school, are probably how far away science classes are from southwest, but I wouldnt live anywhere else ever. Its where you want to live if you are social and like to talk to people and party.. Absolutley nuts. The school now has a good balance of academics with social life, its pretty hard to get a 4.0. They definitely push you.

If you are applying to this school, I'd advise not to come here if you don't like to see drunk kids everywhere and a lot of your highschool walking around. Don't come in thinking you won't have to do any work, because you will. If you love to party, live in Southwest, no doubt. If you are more concerned with school, then live in the other residential areas. You dont really associate with anyone from Ohill, Sylvan, Northeast, or Central. Central is stereotyped as the place where kids smoke alot.. but thats bull. Kids in Southwest smoke more and get away with smoking whatever they want in the rooms. RA's leave and let their hall throw big parties. Its a pretty fun school.

I got into good schools, had a 4.3 in highschool in Nhs and Tri M, captain of all my sports teams, very athletic. My school choices were Northeastern, Uconn, Umass and UVM. But i went to Umass for money concerns. So don't think your degrading yourself by going to Umass… Its a very good school and you can even take classes at Amherst College.

You'll most likely love it here.. everybody does. Most people transfer here, barely anyone ever transfers out.
