To be honest, I believe this is the utopia for a college campus. I have read some of the positive and negative reviews about the school and I was surprised on both ends. I believe that overall a college experience is what the individual makes it but at Ohio University it has many opportunities for everyone. Where else can you walk EVERYWHERE on a beautiful campus with brick sidewalks/roads? This place is very beautiful and it is located hugging the town of Athens. There is a strong community connection between the university students and community members. There are many community service opportunities for every major and passion to get involved in the community and see the results of your efforts in such a small town.We get a bad/good reputation for being a party school and drinking a lot. In my opinion a person that is going to college should be able to handle their social life and their academic life. If they can't they shouldn't be in college. What you see on OU's campus is nothing that any other campus doesn't have, we just do it a little better! Yes there is peer pressure to drink and go out and be social but since when has that necessarily been a bad thing? For people who do not decide to drink there are many other activities to get involved with in the community and on campus. I am applying for graduate schools and the my undergraduate degree has stood out over many other applicants. I have gotten in to 5 out of the 6 schools that I applied to. In my opinion Ohio University is the best undergraduate experience in America. It is like home away from home for me. The small town atmosphere pushes students to get involved and active. I have visited bigger schools in cities and more urban areas and I felt unsafe on the bigger campuses. I have never once felt unsafe here. There are a lot of students that go here but students still have a small town feel to everyday life because we walk by half of our friends going to class. If you have anything bad to say about OU, I am sorry you feel that way but again college is what you make it. I have made some of my lifetime friends here, educated myself, created memories, and will bet that any random night in Athens, OH on OU's campus is a far better time than any other school in America. I have friends all over the east coast that go to various schools, nothing compares. Youtube anything about OU and laugh/love.
