Major: Fine Arts - Painting/Sculpture/Photography/etc (This Major's Salary over time)
I am a senior Fine Art major, graduating in a few months.. I just read a bad review on the film department on this site and I absolutely had to make a comment, I hope it will be of some help to someone, as I am being completely honest about my experience at SVA.

I went to SVA feeling pretty confident about my art, hoping to better myself, but really focused on pursuing art therapy after SVA. I am now finishing up SVA, very very surprised and proud of all I have accomplished, learned, and really grown in the past years. This is really thanks to the faculty. I cannot speak for other departments (although I do know the film deparment is supposed to be pretty impressive and I have film major friends that have no complaints about it), but the fine arts faculty are ALL working, practicing artists that show their work. They do know what they are talking about and not only can they provide you with invaluable advice, they are amazing connections to have. I have been really pushed beyond limits that I didnt even know I had at SVA, and I am so happy with where my art is now. I did not expect this at all before my freshman year.. now I am graduating hoping to also pursue my MFA. The faculty here really truly does try to HELP you and they honestly go out of their way in many cases. I have been very impressed, mostly in my 4th year. I also have to add that 4th yr fine art majors get their own studios, which is PRICELESS and probably the greatest thing ever.

Definitely would recommend SVA to anyone. Top art school. GREAT location in the city too!!

Hi I am looking at art schools and have the intention of becoming an art therapist. Does sva offer any psych classes? Are you still planning on becoming an art therapist and if so..do you feel prepared to enter a masters program with what you've learned at sva? Thanks!
