Major: Pharmacy (This Major's Salary over time)
This, honestly, is a poor quality school. Many students will state feeling "ripped off" and "lied to" after coming here. After the first 2 or 3 semesters, most everyone you first came to college with has transferred out. Most people stay for pharmacy or just can afford the $30,000-50,000 tuition here (don't let online stats fool you; notice how on Collegeboard, LIU has not reported much about their financial aid stats?).This school is extremely expensive and financial aid will either screw you over or try to make you completely dependent on loans. Most of the departments are unhelpful. The education is poor quality, especially most everything undergraduate. There is always a rat race to get the easy professors that don't teach you anything, because the impossibly hard ones usually don't teach you anything either. And yes, most of the professors are in that horrible ultimatum.Because everyone is so concerned about getting into pharmacy (because this is basically a pharmacy and slightly nursing school, while the other majors are ignored), a lot of them are just looking to get A's, not learn anything. Cheating and screwing over fellow pharmacy students is somewhat common. A rare few will pretend to be your friend for your notes or your labs (because lab is ridiculous, meaningless, and teaches you nothing). Pharmacy here can make kids unreasonably stressed out and sometimes self-destructive. It's like the school wants you to apply third year instead of second, thus wasting more money.LIU makes pharmacy ridiculously hard to get into. They accept more pre-pharmacy students than is realistic. The nursing program is easy to get into but the overwhelming amount of bad professors makes it hard to stay. If you're PA, seriously, don't bother. (especially with PA) THEY DON'T ACCEPT THEIR OWN STUDENTS INTO THEIR OWN GRADUATE PROGRAM BECAUSE THEY FIND STUDENTS FROM OTHER SCHOOLS TO BE BETTER QUALIFIED. No LIU student has EVER gotten into the PA program, seriously. Even LIU itself knows how poor its undergraduate programs are!The food is bad and the dorm is falling apart, but the campus is safe and there are a few gems in the departments. But going to this school for anything other than pharmacy is a waste of your time and money. No, honestly, it'd be smarter to get a bachelor's in a science at a cheap school and then be able to apply anywhere in the country, instead of try to do the 0-6, because LIU pigeonholes you as well.Don't come here.
