You should look into Emerson College, in Boston. I go there for film and it's amazing. I almost chose to go to Hofstra but looking back Emerson was by far the best choice. |

I am a new transfer student who is filing applications to get the heck out of here as soon as possible. This school is a NIGHTMARE. After being here for four weeks, let me say what the pros and cons are.Pros: ?Right by New York City. The train station often goes to Hempstead instead of Mineola, both of which are nearly equidistant to Hofstra but the Mineola train takes 20 minutes shorter. Whatever. ?Small classes, I think the max size is 35? That's good. ?The campus is beautiful. It has a nice, urban, modern feel to it. I've also never noticed anything being dirty. ?They are very good with the transfer credits process, 62 out of my 63 transferred in. The only one that didn't was this stupid mandatory class which no other school I applied to accepted. ?The food is kind of good. The cons: ?The people in my department, after attending the Filmmakers Club Meetings, are a complete joke. Nobody wants to make movies of substance; they all want to do make movies for fun (That's what they say the point of the club is… rather than, um, actually be creative). ?I have only learned something in one (Math) of my classes so far. The rest? Nothing. I could have taught myself the rest. We move so slowly. ?This is not a place for the intellectual. I don't see anything of encouragement here at all. The people are loud, disaffected and some of them are just kind of stupid. I tried to make friends. Really, I tried. But so far? The people just don't WANT to make friends. They're happy with being loud and stupid. Overall, I just can't see myself going here for two more years. The thought of that makes me want to gas myself.
