I've read some of the negative comments about Virginia Tech, and I decided to write my own review of the university. Any life experience is what you make of it, and the same can be said for your college years. It's true that Virginia Tech is big, populated with people that you won't like, and you will be given a number, but those who negatively critiqued VT with these opinions seemed to never attempt to find a niche. The campus itself is beautiful in a sense that it reminds many visitors of stone castles. Both the fall and spring seasons bring beauty to the landscape, including maroon and orange leaves starting in September, and blossoming trees throughout the March and April months. I cannot speak on behalf of the other departments, but my department's (AAEC) faculty and staff have been very helpful and open throughout my three years. Since traveling abroad to another university, I have come to realize how supportive Virginia Tech is of the individual. If I had a major complaint, it would be that the downtown life could use more variety (dance clubs etc). Most places don't allow under 21s, but there are plenty of apartment parties that cater to the youngsters. Still, this is not Virginia Tech's fault, and the bars are so crowded during the academic year that I really don't mind underage restrictions. Finally, I want to say that I am a third generation Hokie and the third daughter to go to Virginia Tech, and my experience has been unique. My advice is to join something that interests you. If you're not happy, there will be other organizations/friends out there. Virginia Tech has small clubs that allow you to create small social circle, but it is big enough so that you can move on with something else if you're not satisfied.
