I had my apprehensions about going to this school because of its reputation. Well let me tell you, it definitely lived up to it and beyond. As a student at San Diego State, you'll take a variety of enriching classes such as beer pong table design, flip cup finger technique, homemade bong crafting, amateur drug dealing and themed party costume-making (using only one square inch of fabric). The most rigorous courses are the ones that take roll because heaven forbid you must awaken from your half-drunken stupor and drag your hungover ass to class to get an A. The students are very talented at hosting all night adderall-fueled study sessions only hours before their finals. Extracurriculars include knife fights over who will get the coveted spots on the liver transplant waiting list because lord knows you're gonna want a new one by the time you graduate.

Alright… in all seriousness, San Diego State probably does a great job at some things. I mean, it's a Cal State school and you can certainly get a quality education here. But as far as the whole experience goes, I suppose it all depends on what kind of person you are and what "neighborhood" of the school you're in (Yes, it's a humongous school so where you live pretty much determines who you will hang out with).

There are a lot of commuters here, so if you fall into this category then you'll probably think it's just like any other typical Cal State (i.e. Long Beach, San Bernardino, etc.). But if you're from out of town and plan to live in the dorms, be prepared to get your drink on. That's pretty much all anyone does around here… there's absolutely zero school spirit, the football team is terrible and the only on-campus clubs that have more than three members are the young alcoholics-in-training known as sororities and fraternities.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a total square and I definitely had a blast, especially during my first two years there. In fact I had so much fun that now I'm going to have a pretty difficult time trying to convince graduate schools to let my easily distracted, sorry self into their programs. But if you're not aiming to grad school and are a "C's get degrees" kind of person, I say go for it. This school is perfect for those looking for some crazy college adventures. Between the midnight panty runs and the insane frat parties where you just might share a blunt with Afro Man, there's never a dull moment here. It does get old after a while though. Personally, I found most people to be a bit of a bore once I realized that they were nothing more than drinking buddies… everyone lacked a lot of substance. You can also forget about dating anybody unless you're totally ok being referred to as a f___ buddy and sharing your bf/gf with every syphilis-tainted lush on campus. But as i said, it all depends on what kind of person you are. Different strokes, people.

So here's a quick recap that will reinforce every stereotype you've ever heard about SDSU:

1. Yes, it's a huge party school.

2. Yes, everyone here is ridiculously attractive (and they know it).

3. Yes, the drug scene is alive and well. The DEA missed a few people!

4. Yes, the annual San Diego fires will probably get you a few free days off from school.

5. Yes, it will take you at least 5 years to graduate.

6. Yes, the school might as well change its name to STDSU.

7. Yes, the beach is awesome and so is the rest of the city.

8. No, it's not that bad if you're ok with all of the debauchery that goes on here.

So there you have it. SDSU in a nutshell… a very drunken nutshell. In retrospect I definitely would have gone elsewhere, but to each his own. Cheers!
