I'm leaving VCU with a little bit of pain but a mountain of relief. I was so happy and comfortable at this school. I was a person that just genuinely believed they would be here to graduate and would never transfer to another school, that idea just seemed ludicrous to me. I agree that VCU is what you make of it and I'm no bitter xenophobe or introvert that's being spiteful. I went out there and tried to make it the best I could. I joined a great sorority, joined clubs, and tried to put my best foot forward when it came to meeting people. So at the end of my freshmen year I was duly satisfied with my circle of friends. Now when I came back for my sophomore year this all changed. I'm the type of person that loves variety and diversity and VCU is suppose to have an abundance of both, right? WRONG. When I came back my sophomore year I realized I was stuck, stuck with the people from my freshmen year. I was still doing the same EXACT same things on the weekends and on any other day with the EXACT same people. The truth is at VCU, you make a few friends and then your stuck. I was stuck in a stupid clique consisting of mostly Greeks. People easily write each other off seamlessly and don't let anyone have you believe it's just the snooty ones that do this. Even the kids that are victimized as "weirdos" or "artfreaks" are pretty capable of it too.

Now the campus? Couldn't tell you we had one. VCU has successfully intertwined with Richmond, you couldn't tell the two apart and had it not been for additional logos having to tell you it is indeed a VCU building you're looking at and not just some old Victorian house or a row of city apt. buildings you'd never even know there was a school here. Safety? Whatever. Please don't assume or be told that this campus is safe or scenic. It's neither. The school is ridden with the homeless, especially Monroe Park their headquarters is an eyesore. It is not safe to walk around by yourself after 10 pm. and this goes for both girls and guys. Girls often are more susceptible to sexual harassment and guys generally tend to be mugged. You know you're at an unsafe school when hearing gunshots becomes the mundane, it's so sad.

I personally never had any problems with classes. I've always managed to get in to all the classes I wanted. Advising here at this school is ridiculous. You're better off just looking up the requirements online and signing up for your own classes. The professors are fine and helpful this largely depends on what your major is. In general the academics at this school are sub par. A study conducted; however, in 2007 indicated that VCU students make the least amount of money after college compared to other major schools such as JMU, UVA, GMU, W&M, and Tech. Oh yes, and there are virtually no internships available. You are so on your own for that.

I'm outta here.

questionAh no internships? :x I was told that VCU's art program is pretty solid and that the city itself is really focused on the arts.. did you find that to be the case?
