RPI has a very good reputation with employers, especially in the northeast. Pretty much all the major tech/engineering companies recruit here, whether it be Microsoft, Intel, GE, Boeing, etc as well as IT departments of all the major banks.

As long as your GPA isnt too bad and you do an internship or two(which are easy to get), you will get an offer (most people I know have at least 3) with salaries in the mid $50k range +/- a couple of grand. So if your only intent for RPI is to be a stepping stone for your career, its a great school.

But this school is very poor for general life experience. As with most tech based schools, the social life isn't great though you can make it tolerable with some effort. There is very little diversity (mostly white middle class males from suburbs or farms), and different ethnic groups only hang out with each other. There isn't racial tension or anything, but the segregation is very noticeable. Greek life is a big deal here. There are frats for every type of person, whether you are a geek, a jock, preppy, etc so you will be able to find your niche if you choose so. There are lots of clubs to engage in, but a good percentage of kids stay in their dorm rooms and play videogames or download porn. You are basically a wannabe frat guy or a gaming geek here, and not much in between.

The infamous ratio. Yes its all true, as well as RIBS (ratio induced bitch syndrome). An ugly girl (both looks and personality wise) can easily hook up with a guy that she otherwise wouldnt be able to if she was at a more normal school or out in the real world. So if you are a girl, you pretty much have your pick of guys here, which turns normal girls into bitches. You can hook up with girls here and there at parties, but its nothing like the more normal college i visited every now and then.

If i could go back in time, i probably wont come here. But I dont hate the place though, it did open many doors for me due to its strong brand name and good education. I just feel like I missed out on the traditional college experience.
