Hofstra is an expanding university and too much emphasis is placed on expansion by the administration. Education is decent, but i wanted more than just education. i wanted average social experiences. College life at Hofstra is similiar to many private universities, but it's location lacks real appeal. Long island fall and winters while not terrible, are also not wonderful. The campus is vibrant when in full session. The surrounding communities are not. Commercial business districts and economically depressed Hempstead, NY are Hofstra's neighbors. No college town strip or nightlife area in immediate proximity. A car is not a luxury here, on Long Island a car is required. Malls and big box stores are near, but not with-in walking distance and mass transit is lacking. Food is rough at best. Hofsta is not for the timid. You have to seek out experiences here.
