William Paterson is a commuter school with a lack of school spirit. I came to this school because the school that I wanted to go to did not supply me with enough financial aid and basically left me to dry once August came. Instead of going to community I opted to attend WPUNJ, however I now see this was a BIG mistake and waste of money.

STUDENT LIFE: The student community fails to integrate others into their clique-like and racially biased groups which leaves room for plenty of groups like snobby whites, snobby blacks, "ghetto" blacks, white geeks, black geeks, greeks, small "street team" like cliques with cheesy names.

I want to believe that the only sense of "togetherness" comes from the commuter students who seem to be a community and have the same understandings of what it's like to be a commuter.

You come to find that unless you are in a club, which heavily interferes with school work while being a freshman, there is no campus life unless you don't mind drinking in your room on thurs, fri, or saturday nights. Because Wayne or Paterson doesn't lend well to being a "college town" there is no hope, ESPECIALLY for freshman with no car.

For females, your popularity is contingent upon how much you whore yourself out to the "popular" guys on campus and how many friends are willing to do the same. If you're not up to being in sketchy situations with guys, drinking, then you're considered "wack."

More importantly, because this is a close-to-home school for a majority of the students, many of them socialize solely with people from their high school and fail to expand their horizons socially.

Greeks put themselves on some sort of pedestal and do not try to create any type of interest or accessibility to non-greeks making themselves less appealing overall.

EDUCATION: The teachers I find to be very helpful and most of them had office had office hours available. However, they are not all necessarily good teachers. Many of them lose the students in teaching the course while in class. Which means you must find time to RE-learn what you were supposed to have been taught by your teacher on your own. Resulting in you having to do homework to understand the homework. To me, in the GE English and Writing classes students were spoon fed by overly concerned teachers. Much of the work given to us in those classes I could have done in my freshman year of HIGH SCHOOL! To me it is ridiculous to be placed in a writing or english class with basic skills students.

MISC: The food is decent, many of the RA's are careless and don't do anything to create at least a floor community, most of the money has clearly been put into the student center, leaving the residence halls (especially the towers) looking like projects (however the towers have been newly renovated). Most students go home every weekend and can be seen returning in droves on Sunday. You come to realize that you always see the same faces but those faces you see are not the scholars, they're the students that are super-juniors or seniors who take pride in being known for just that.

I am in the works of finishing off this fall semester and transferring by the spring because I just can't take it anymore!
