I was MORE THAN mistaken when I posted my comment about LU some 6 months ago.

YES, LU's very conservative. BUT NOT BORING! I recommend going to the LaHaye and making use of their Gym or Pool. It's a good way to unwind ('specially after tests, bad days, or getting used to life again).

If sports isn't your thing, they do have gaming consoles you can play there (but it's better to come with your own, that way games aren't so hard to come by).

Even better yet, they have a movie theater across from north campus that is only $1 USD for LU students [with LU ID].

If that's not your thing, try doing some community service. there are a lot of options [plus you'll be fufilling the needed 20 hours of service each semester. you may even make a few good friends in the process, so why NOT? ]

DO study. the classes are hard, but for valid reasons. Mainly to get you to learn and THINK. Don't understand the homework? NO SWEAT! Email your teacher for tips and tricks to getting the gist (the teachers are VERY knowledgeable and willing to HELP [not do your home work for you]).

People on the most part are neutral, but good. They won't speak with you until you speak with them, so if you're lonely, get off your but and say something friendly to someone… IT PAYS OFF (but do choose your allies wisely). sure some of them are rich snobs who outwardly worship money/stuff, leave them to their own folly (same with any legalist).

make sure to have a job. extra money helps out BIG time when your computer or it's stuff goes on the fritz… or you get a bit hungry and the 'rot's closed [and you've still a few hours until dorm meeting/curfew].

I recommend trying the local dining faire. ask your RA about B-dubs (buffalo wild wings) and the "T-room" (famous for cheesy westerns (burgers with egg and cheese))

My only real gripe was my roommates. as musicians, they seemed to enjoy being a bit intolerant towards any gamer (as in imitating characters as they speak, rudely watching over your shoulder, policing for foul language, etc.) but since i was on "the Circle" , it could not be helped. my hint: Be stern and assertive, but not to the point of being a whiner. Also, if you want more privacy, try out east campus housing. it's EXPENSIVE, but not bad (and you can cook if the 'rot's food isn't appetizing).

If you're 21 [or a Lynchburgian local], you can apply to live off campus. It's cheaper than living on campus [but it does not include food, although you can BUY a good meal plan at the start of each semester :) , or buy food wholesale from Sam's ;)]. LU even has an apartment finder if you're stuck on deciding on where to live, or need a bargain! all in all.. I like it better than local community college.
