Major: Psychology (This Major's Salary over time)
Overall, Western has been a great choice for me. I chose Western because of the scholarship money that they offered me, and honestly, after talking to friends, my undergraduate degree can come from anywhere. Granted, I am active on campus. Western has a greak Greek community so I rushed my fresheman year, then decided that Greek life just wasn't for me. I'm in the Lee Honor's College and would highly reccomend it to anyone who as the opportunity to apply. Actually, I reccommend that you look for scholarships at Western if you're really interested in going and have a decent GPA. They offer scholarships for EVERYTHING. Major specific, cultural diversity (aka, if you're a minority applying, you'll get this), good grades out of high school, etc.

The Psychology department is great if you want to go into behavioral psychology. The faculty works great together and there are tons of opportunities for internships. Its a pretty easy major. One thing that a lot of people don't like is that Western requires 122 credit hours to graduate whether or not you complete your major and minor early. Still, it makes it easy to double minor or major. Western is also on this new kick to graduate you in 4 years, no matter what your major is. Granted, the buildings are old and there's not many trees on campus (which everyone complains about) but the lifestyle that you live at Western is great. A lot of kids come from the east side and think that it's boring here, but considering where we're located, you can't ask for Detroit.

If you come expecting a party school, you'll get it. Western vs Central week, we bring in extra police force to manage the crowds around the area. We throw down like crazy. Same goes for homecoming. It's common knowlege that people who go here graduate with a degree in drinking, because it's not called "Wastern" for nothing. Tailgaiting isn't as good here as it is in at the Big 10 schools… it's a lot of alumni and whip out their grills while we wander down the street with fifths in hand. The student ghetto, which is about a mile or two off of campus is notorious for house parties during games. It also offers affordable living in houses pretty close to campus.

The dorms are strict about drugs/alcohol, but it's easy to get away with things depending on your RA. People smuggle kegs up in laundary carts and hockey bags (for future reference). If you want to party as a freshman, get in the Valleys for dorms. If you're not into that, the main-campus dorms are probably more your style.

If you're 21, the bars are OK. Most of them are downtown… one has a mechanical bull, one is a dualing piano bar, tons of hole-in-the wall joints, lots of sportsbars and the local Bell's brewery.

As for the general feel of campus, there's tons of different people and cultures. We've got stoners, athletes, a really accepting GLBT community, fraternity village drive, a huge engineering campus, and tons of other demographics that just kinda hang out. You'll find a place to fit in here.
