I was only at FIT for a year and I transferred to a UC school. Anyway, FIT has the WORST staff. the adminstration, every single one except one woman, are so incredibly rude, they don't give a crap about the students, they just want to get paid. So, if you ever have a question about credits, security, housing, careers, anything. . . prepared to leave the office wanting to either cry or hit somebody. I personally didn't like my classes because I was in the wrong major, I was merchandising management but should have been in fashion illustration. When I decided i wanted to switch my major I was told I'd have to re-apply completely and none of my credits would transfer, and I had to take a year off so that I could begin the curriculum in the falll. so, if you want to go to fit, BE POSITIVE THAT THE MAJOR YOUR APPLYING FOR IS WHAT YOU WANT TO DO!!! I think there is lots of talent at FIT, but LOTS of untalented people too. the reason I'm rating my experience neutral instead of poor is because having FIT on my resume has definitely helped me get jobs. Also, in the city you can easily make really great connections, FIT allows you to volunteer at fashion week, and they can help you get internships.

questionI am considering going to a UC or CSU in California, (Is that what you meant by UC?) or to FIT or LIM. With budget cuts, I would have to wait a year and a half to go to a UC or CSU for Fall 13. I am thinking of going for fashion merchandising management for sure. I also think having FIT on my resume will help me get jobs. From what you experienced in the FMM program, did it seem worth it to move and all that or is it so bad that I should wait the year and a half? I've worked at internships and fashion week in LA here so that benefit is null for me.
responseI had the EXACT same problem. I applied to FMM when in high school. my gpa was in the high 3's. I was not interested in FMM before I came here because I am not good at business and not that interested. on the other hand I love art/design, sewing and styling so when I tried to switch my major after my 2 year associates in FMM, the interviewer of fabric styling told me FMM student are not guaranteed to be in this program unless they have all their credits. Plus my gpa dropped in FMM so now my changes are almost nothing but I am planning to take a year off too to get my credits for the bachelors major.
