Is this sister school like, the kind of school where people go when they don't get accepted into pratt? Like, if you had the choice freshman year between this school and pratt in brooklyn, which would you choose? |
To the question above this one, Pratt MWP is basically Pratt but in upstate NY. By getting into Pratt MWP you automatically get into pratt and can transfer to pratt, without all those transfer annoyances, if you want to or transfer to any other school you manage to get into. I did the over night stay in MWP in February and I loved it, its what made my decision to go there and I just got accepted and cant wait for next semester |
I got into both campuses, but prefer a campus where i will be without distractions for first two years. film photography is my passion and i am looking forward to the close knit community and all the free time in the world to develop myself as an artist, so i can move to brooklyn a bit more mature and ready to work professionally. |
Hello! I'm from India and have been trying to decide between a bunch of art school{fine art}including Pratt MWP, SAIC, SCAD, Parsons,Tyler, etc.. I'm currently waiting for Cooper union, because it will mean free tuition, but I'm not too hopeful about that. They give preference to american students. At Pratt MWP i've been offered $12500 scholarship per year, which covers more than half the tuition. I find the idea of a change after 2 years appealing enough to push it up to my best option now. but the reviews have been confusing me, so I was hoping for a first hand perspective. Thank You! |

Ok, so I searched and searched to find Pratt MWP listed, but to no avail.I don't know through first hand experience about Pratt in Brooklyn, and I am surprised no one has mentioned Pratt MWP yet.Pratt's sister school is very small and community oriented. This makes it wonderful. All of your teachers know your name as well as your style of art, which allows you to receive specific advice about improving your work. Classmates become your family; everyone generally cares about each other's well-being. It's so much better to live amongst fellow artists than "normal" people, because finding people who understand the way you think out in the "real world" is so rare. As a side note-the dorms are completely co-ed, and you can have opposite gender overnight guests. It makes maintaining longer distance relationships easier.Art history and English - the only academic classes required - have pretty low demands and are fairly easy to pass as long as you do the work and pay attention in class. Studios are open until 2:00am or longer throughout the week, so there's all the time in the world to work. The workload is quite intense, but since there really isn't anything to do anyway because there isn't much in the way of city life, there is always time to finish projects. For those looking for more rambunctious forms of entertainment, believe me, Pratt students still find ways to party. If you have the opportunity to participate in the overnight program at Pratt MWP, DO IT. It's the best way to find out if this school is right for you. Its what made MY decision.
