I didn't really want to go to Pratt, but I got a lot of financial aide from them, and it was close to home. I didn't reallize it at the time, but it really was a stinky school in a bad neighborhood. I really got very little out of the whole experience, they didn't/couldn't even help me get a job when I was graduating (they really only want to help the graphic arts and illustration people get jobs). The Administrative staff were hopelessly ghetto-rude and unhelpful. The teachers were, for the most part, unprepared and uninspired. If you'd like a really funny, honest look watch the movie Art School Confidential, it's based on the director's experiences at Pratt. I returned to Pratt recently for a job interview, I thought things had improved. Not really. I walked into the Office of Academic Computing to see old office furniture, plywood stuck in the window to fit the A/C, and was interviewed by a committee of three idiots who couldn't possibly get jobs anywhere else. Depressing! The look of horror on my face must have taken me out of the running immediately. There really are better art schools, and if you really want to be in New York City and pay a lot of money, go to NYU, Parson, SVA, Hunter, anywhere but here!
