I came to Boston University from Northern California, one of the most liberal and open minded places in the country. Not only that, but I am only use to no more than 80 days of rain, with temperatures ranging from 50-70 degrees year round. This may have made me "weaker."

I had not gotten into the state schools that I wanted to go, applied to BU randomly because my mom wanted me to, and sure enough it was one of the schools I got into. I went to the open house, saw how close the school was to the city, and decided to attend.

I am a very strong person. I had no problems expressing myself and making good strong friends/connections for myself here in California. Very mature person. Started driving when i was 16, was making money at that age, and exploring life in a major metropolitan area well before I graduated high school. I do come from a lower upper class family but with great family values/morals.

Once I went to Boston everything changed. I have come to the conclusion that there is simply too much diversity at this school. Kids come from all around the world, different socioeconomic backgrounds, there is simply no set norm as to how to behave. A lot of kids from small towns that aren't used to the diversity and would rather be silent, or feel they have to be proud of who they are and stick up to what they believe in.. whatever those beliefs may be at 18-21. People are not open minded, perhaps like to learn in an academic setting, but are not enhancing themselves on a personal level. They are scared mainly, they dont want to do something mom and dad warned them about. good kids but lack life experiences.

Grade deflation is a big thing. The school wants to keep the students so they make it hard to transfer. In my opinion, if you want a good education, boston will give it to you AND will make you a stronger person in the end… but the youthful/immature part of your soul will die in the process. this is okay to some as some believe dats what becoming an adult is.. but i have found my path and after 2 1/2 years of SUFFERING, feelings of inadequacy, and just plain misery, I am back home in california and will finish my education here.
