Hofstra is a good school, I have yet to meet a professor who did not have a mastery of what he/she was teaching. Leaving them aside, the classroom enviorment isn't too great. Yes the professors are motivated and intellegent, but the students in classes (for the most part) are very unmotivated, and to an extent, unmotivating. The good part about this is that if your a bright kid you shouldn't have many problems gracing through classes with little effort (if you show up, its tough to pass a class without taking a test).

The social scene is pretty ambiguous as well. On one hand, the surronding area is the only part of long island I have ever seen that isn't beautiful. Its pretty ghetto and because of its proximity to the city the real estate is expensive so the off campus houses are not big or in very good shape so though a few parties can be good, they are often crowded (to the point where you can barley move, i have no problems with a big party) and not very fun. There are some houses that can be fun that have small parties, but still these arn't the best in the world either, and you have to know the right people to have the connections. Freshmen housing is strict and the towers conditions suck, so the only good on-campus housing is C Square (no freshmen there unless you play a sport)

With these conditions combined, Hofstra is a school that is good, but at the same time it is the type of place where all the people you see have BC or NYU hoddies on. As a student body we don't have very much unity and it seems like a place where everyone would rather be somewhere else.

If you get in and its the best school you got accepted to (my case) then go for it, otherwise, really take a look around the neighborhood and maybe find someone that goes to Hofstra that you can relate to before going. (Also, if your not from the local area or an area that is comparible with the type of people Cali, Miami, etc. Then I promise you that you won't like it.) Also, If you think you want a big school, then you really want a big school, remember that.
