Wow…I cant believe it …I took a tour there, and now I realize why they emphasized the security so much but after a year..is it still the same? |
Major: Sociology (This Major's Salary over time)
Simply put, med/bio chem majors, if you're asian, this is the place for you. If not it is Horrendous. I transferred here as a junior, and left after less than 4 months. The academics are slightly more than pretty good, but the social life instantaneously shatters whatever good the scholastic aspect of this school has to offer. Competitive, unfriendly, arrogant, and cliquey are a few words that come to mind to describe both the students AND staff. Not to mention females please take note: The jocks here resemble mutated super hero villians with their immense bodies, and I mean that in a scary way. Seriously though, rape is a pretty big problem at this school, which sadly, no one told me about. After 2 cases within the first two months, it definately sealed the deal for me to leave. Campus Security is nothing short of illegally obscure…nighttime classes leave you open to deserted walkways with NO light, and even worse for the commuter parking lots which have absolutely no one there to see you to your car which you have to park 4 miles away from campus!!!LOL This may seem a little overdone, but dramatizing I am NOT. Im telling you like it is, and the funny part is everyone @ SBU knows how it is, hence the high commuter ratio. Furthermore, the social life is bad due to everyone leaving on weekends. Trust, by five o'clock on friday night you will hear crickets. So take heed to my info. Of course some may view this school as intellectually stimulating and "fun", but for most it lacks what is really needed in college: security, an engaging atmosphere, and assurance. The shuttles that commute all around the huge campus read on the back bold and loud: "You are following some of the brightest minds in the country…" (im not lying) But uuuhhh…I beg to differ. Well somewhat smart maybe, personable? Yeah right.
