Major: Mechanical Engineering (This Major's Salary over time)
Stony Brook has made huge leaps over the past decade. The school has added many incredible brand new buildings and updated existing resources. It has purchased 2 new campuses and is creating a research park branch on the main campus as well as modernizing all facilities, improving the aesthetic image of the campuses and adding more "recreation space". The student body has increased by several thousand over the past few years as has avg sat grade and university selectivity, basically the kids are getting smarter. Because the majority of the student body is from Long Island or New York City, many of the sudents do go home on the weekends and many commute to classes but this isnt necessarily a bad thing because the proximity to NYC is a huge selling point as it is the only state school (affordable) within a quick train ride to America's largest city. The sciences here are very very good, engineering as well. As far as the social life, it's what you make of it. If your the type of person that would like to have a active social life I recommend that you check out the greek life on campus, it really changes your social life for the better. Stony Brook is a rising star for SUNY, this year more people applied to Stony Brook then any other SUNY campus. So far, I'm really enjoying my college times, I feel like im enjoying college a lot more then my friends in Binghamton, Rutgers and Cornell.. which I think says a lot about Stony Brook, a quality experience for a good price.
