Major: Communications (This Major's Salary over time)
i am a second year student coming from a painting, history, and sculpting background. i am a visual communitcations major. i am currently working at maxstudio.com as a personal shopper and every once and a while i help with the store visual merchandising with the district manager. i also am currently working a internship with legacy entertainment (a company that places certain props in huge movies like MI3, 40 year old virgin, and the employee of the month/tv shows like 24, greys anatomy, csi…to name a few. my career goal is to become a set designer. i love periodic films and i plan to attend more schooling after fidm to broaden my knowledge and skill. i want to be the best i can be at my craft.

the truth is this…in order to attend this school you must be ambitious and result seeking, execute the necessary steps in achieving you goal and make sure to finish out the plans you have implemented.

students who have negative opinions about fidm are those who realize that they will not last one second in the fashion or design industry. they expect a traditional school with that homey and student life atmosphere. fidm is designed with a competive cirriculum and social ambieance. you come to fidm to work hard and be challenged in a professional sense. assignments, projects, and exectution of these projects is what gives the school its unique spin. fidm bases it self on preparing their student to be able to walk into an actual work enviroment and be able to adapt themselves a lot easier than the student who graduated with the average skills and the vague idea of what to do. c'mon people things will not be handed to you in the real world. fidm will not hand things to you. REMEMEBR…IT IS PREPARING YOU. i love attending fidm. it has taught me to open doors for myself. i realize that the school is there to plant those skills that are necessary and it is my choice what i choose to do with them. i have been able to get great jobs and internships through the school and what i have been taught HAS come into play. my advice is this…in order to pull ahead in the competiton of fashion design or in any design, you must be an ambitious individual. you must place youself in that atmosphere with peers who are on the same quest. fidm does that for you.

questionI plan on attending FIDM early next year. I am a bit worried about the cost of living. I currently live in Texas and work a full time job, this is all I have ever been used to. I am 23 and finally ready to reach for my dreams in the fashion industry. So back to cost of living, I am not sure exactly were my parents stand so I would like to take care of my own housing. Any advise?

Thank you!!!

Crystal
