Hi BrentI'm Jean I'm from thailand and plan to go to UCSB for tennis scholarship next year. The coach contact back already.I want your suggest about UCSB.Most people go to party?athletic also?I'm from Thailand and i saw the tennis team there is no 1 from Asia.If i can get in to UCSB do you think it's hard for me to get social?I would appreciate any recommend from you.Thank you very much for your time.Jean |
Hey Brett,I'm most likely going to transfer to UCSB next summer, and I would just like your opinion. I got all my partying out in highschool, and would like to focus msotly on academics, I couldn't really care less about parties. So, do you think this would be a good choice for someone who would like to party once a month or so but still get a good education? Also, I'm not too fond of "bro's" or STD's. Thanks |
Hey Brent I wanted to know if going to UCSB would suck if you don't drink or do drugs since there is so much partying. Also, how competative are the classes? thanks |
Brent,I appreciate your honesty about UCSB. Who can deny its a party school, right? I come from a small high school and got a little worried when UCSB was the only UC to accept me. Its also the best school that accepted me. I really don't know if I can ever call a party school "home." I also really wanted a college where professors communicate with their students. Am I reaching for the stars if I decide to go to UCSB? Is there a less "party-oriented" environment on campus? Thanks! |
Hi Brent,I'm a transfer student and I visited UCSB for the first time today. The campus is undoubtedly beautiful since it's right next to the beach, but overall it seemed sort of…dead. I'm not sure if this is because I went during midterm week or if it's normally quiet and chill (not that it's a bad thing!) on a daily basis. should i visit sb again and give it another shot? |
Major: Economics (This Major's Salary over time)
This is advice for people that are going to be living on campus:One thing I've realized about my first year of college is that the "academic ratings" are completely irrevelant and do not effect your college experience. I am on track with a good major and good program, but my goal is to have the experience of a lifetime socially, not to have great professors or feel like an individual in a small class. As long as a person is disciplined they can do well at the school. The 'party school' vibe is because of the way the adajcent community of Isla Vista is set up. Any 30,000 kids put in a beach enviroment, which in fact is the most densely populated square mile west of the mississippi. The satisfaction I get from UCSB is from my relationships and the social life. UCSB academics are rated in the top 50 in the country, so it must be good, right? Make your college decision on the feeling you get when you visit the university and where you can see yourself living day to day, the academic should be secondary factor.
