Date: Dec 31 1969 Major: Fine Arts - Painting/Sculpture/Photography/etc (This Major's Salary over time) MICA is where a young artist needs to be. At this current point in time it has a good energy with geniune and inspired thinking. I was a student from 1997-2000 and I teach there during the summers so I have some recent knowledge. I feel that it was good for me then and now, teaching me theory and improving my critical thinking skills, but also the more general problem solving skills I needed to make it day to day as an artist. Baltimore is a dangerous city, it is the modern version of the Wild West, and honestly, and until recently MICA has not had enough money to make their "campus" what any suburban kid would consider safe. This was part of my education. My advice would be to have a car, but don't leave anything in it, or it will get broken into. This makes things much safer and will allow you to take advantage of all the wonderful nearby musuems and cities. I would do it again, the students work and have ambition, the teachers are talented and articulate. If you want to go to school to party, this is not the place. If you want to learn about the romance of the artistic life, MICA will be a fulfilling experience.
