UNCW has everything to prepare you perfectly, except the name. I am a med school applicant and it's quite embarrasing to go to Duke or Northwestern to interview and have to say UNCW when others come from Harvard, Princeton, Vanderbilt, etc. However, I really loved UNCW, I had a life, I made so many friends and did great in school and involvement. Didn't like the mentality of being a primate and a slut to be popular but that may be how it works in the coast down south. Gotta be a surfer and dress "cool". The faculty is awesome and I'm glad I have 8 faculty and staff writing recommendation letters that stand out greatly. I had the chance to get to know the chancellor, vicechancellor, dean, asssistant vice chancellor on a personal basis and everything. There are activities going on all the time but of course everybody wants to be cool, drinking beer at a appartment. They seem to be getting more strict on everything which I guess is good but at the same time takes the fun part away, I party A LOT!!! but still did great academically like I said, you just gotta be mature enough to make good decisions. The facilities are amazing, truly and the weather awesome (when summer). UNCW definately depends on what you put in… you can be like me, a considerable Duke Med applicant or be nobody who failed everything and blame it on the poor quality of UNCW.
