If you like white homogenous people from southern california then this is the place for you.

Also, don't be too concerned with holding meaningful conversations, just keep to the subjects of sex, booze and parties and you can make it happily through your four years of college.

academia sometimes challenging. Typically students are most interested with their social lives. Priorities never seem to be career or educational value of u.c.s.b. Sometimes I've balked when I've received the only A in course knowing full well that I have half-assed the final and that I must be around a bunch of incompetent morons.

The key to doing well in courses is simply memorizing lecture notes. It is important to remember that formulating your own ideas or constructs regarding what you are studying is pointless in the eyes of the professor/T.A. and if you choose to do so you will find yourself arguing your tests to some dimwitted first year graduate student that couldn't bother to take the time to understand your solution because he was too busy grading the 200 other exams submitted by your moron classmates.

I often fear for my level of competence especially in job market. Right now I have internship and prove over and over again that I in my 4th year am completely inadequately prepared for a position in industry yet I am a 3.8-3.9 avg gpa student—a credit to the lackluster standards here at u.c.s.b. campus/resources pretty good. Making appointments is a must, otherwise don't count on using any resources. All the physical facilities are not brand new, i.e its no ivy league, berkeley, UCLA or UCSD for that matter.

The buildings/architecture is old and dingy. if you plan on going to school for four years you will live in isla vista. This place is a total dump, never seen anything like it outside of Tijuana, also be aware that there is no housing after freshmen year and ucsb turns out to be one of the more expensive colleges due to high rent and cost of living expenses. extra curriculars snobby. tried joining several clubs, fraternities and organizations. Most of them lost interest in me as soon as I told them I don't like to drink / party 7 days a week and am looking for more meaningful relationships.

Also, most people at ucsb are single and want to stay single. If you are looking for a relationship don't count on it but if you want some ass now and then this place will suit you just fine. And take my word, its not me, I've had relationships before coming to ucsb, its just that individualism is not admired here at all—and I am able to hook up when necessary its just no real relationships.
