Major: Anthropology (This Major's Salary over time)
NU is known as the ivy of the midwest.. basically only people of the midwest recognize its prestige. But don't go here for the "name" alone. NU has a lively student life. Residential colleges and Greek life are active and make it feel like a home. Don't let stereotypes of going Greek keep you from rush. I'm a sorority girl and I don't drink or party at all, yet you can still have a social life. Dining on campus leaves much to be desired. Everyone is so involved and passionate about something. Work-study is fun and easy. Coursework varies, depending on the dept. Science, engineering, econ/poli sci classes are the most challenging. Look at reviews to choose your professors and classes. Pre-med classes are demoralizing and make you question yourself. The structure of the class fosters competition and the bio dept's concentration on animals is silly. I came here to learn, not to earn A's and stress over it. Fortunately there are plenty of faulty advisors that understand your predicament, you just need to find them. Most profs take an interest in you, support you, and are incredibly accessible. Check out interdisciplinary majors to blend your interests. Everyone is double-majoring and even minoring (overachievers!). Very professional oriented ie all are pre-med or pre-law. There are still a few nursing, pharmacy, pub health students - see the school of continuing studies. Lots of suburbanites here. The school is mediocre for diversity - mostly white, some asians and other ethnicities. I despise the tossing around of wealth here. There's ipods, cell phones, new cars, galore. Evanston is an OK college town with a theater and yummy restaurants. Keep telling yourself that the cold builds character (I'm from Chicago, the city). I received a ton of financial aid, so don't let the cost keep you away. I've enjoyed my time at NU. After earning my degree, I'm moving on to an excellent nursing school.
