I love unc, but it's easy to see how many people dont fit into it's lifestyle. first of all academics: could be better. You have to realize that this is a public school and a lot of NC kids come here after high school just cuz everyone of their friends is goin as well. So as an out of state student, kinda disappointed that crummy dumbass kids come by. I haven't gotten stuck with a TA or faculty that doesn't speak english very well, so i can't comment on that. For the most part, the professors are pretty damn smart. They are definitely accessible, so don't buy that whole argument otherwise. But on the downside, as a freshman you will be in some pretty big lectures. So that's where the whole part comes in about the school treating you as a number. You won't mind so much cuz there are too many chances to have fun that u won't care too much whether your teacher even knows your name. People are awesome down here, social atmosphere and school pride that no other university in the nation has. I mean, all over the country you see carolina blue baseball caps or unc tshirts. Unc is simply the shit. We suck at football though which i don't give a damn about i hate football. If your a guy, lemme tell u that the girls down here are stoopid hot. with a 60-40 ratio girls to guys, u dont mind walkin around campus just to get a glimpse of someone or meeting someone new (as opposed to taking the buses which get crowded during peak hours). South campus, which is where most of the incoming freshman stay is gettin a new dining hall and it is one of the most active places on campus. It's a 10 minute walk to the quad(which can be a bitch at 830 in the morning goin up and down hills), but the good thing is that since we're all freshmen down here, we have our own fun and everyone is meeting each other. Anyway, you'll have your chance as an upperclassman to go to middle or north campus. There are always lots of things goin on near or on campus. franklin street holds poker tournements at local bars, there are clubs, frat court is always busy. Mainly what you gotta weigh here is how much of your academic life are you willing to give up for a social one. If you're an out of state student and you're admitted, chances are you most likely got into northwestern, u chicago, u wash in st. louis, vanderbilt, wake forest and perhaps duke. Except even kids from there envy tar heels cuz they know we have several college's share of fun. I actually did myself a favor and didn't apply to many schools that would give me a hard time with this decision, i wanted unc that bad if i got in.
