I entered Alfred State College (ASC) as an underachieving high school student who was always allowed to slide by with the minimum of effort. When I arrived at ASC I expected to do the same but that was not to be. The faculty challenged me to excel. I graduated from high school with a 78 average (1300 SAT, 28 ACT) and eventually a 2.75 GPA from ASC, not so bright right? Well, this may not sound too stellar, but I transferred to SUNY Binghamton after two years at ASC and graduated from there with a 3.98 GPA. ASC prepared me for the challenges for a large school with an excellent academic reputation well deserved. I have also completed my master’s degree from University of Buffalo, and turned down full-ride opportunities for a PhD. I am not attempting to brag here, I am far from the typical student, if you are willing to put forth the effort at ASC you will benefit greatly. The faculty will challenge you! The administration will support you! It may not be the greatest social life, but it is an excellent educational institution!!! Work hard as an undergrad… life is much easier the harder you work at college!!! Friends of mine that had much higher GPA’s in high school and were not challenged in college wish they where were I am now… Alfred State may not be the place for you but remember the harder you work as an undergrad the better time you will have later life. Eat it up… Enjoy life!!!
