pros:
  • the first suburb outside of a major city; chicago is easily accessible
  • big 10 sports
  • an incredible swimming and athletic facility (SPAC)
  • college of arts and sciences has reading week at the end of every quarter before finals = no classes
  • public transportation accessible
  • charlie moskos teaching sociology
  • dillo day

    • cons:

  • brutally cold winters
  • career services lacking decent services
  • career services propensity to advise students to apply to graduate school if they do not know how to advise on career related matters
  • school year ends in mid-june
  • lack of access to classes within school of music and other smaller departments and majors
  • the majority of the students end up with careers in consulting or banking, with few resources for those with other interests
  • poor job placement outside of the midwest
  • the greek system
  • dry campus
  • lack of support for the job search in industries outside of consulting and banking/finance
  • lack of cohesiveness among student body
  • self-segregation among the diverse populations
  • lacking minority presence
  • most classes are lectures and rote memorization with mandatory TA/discussion sections that add little to the learning experience
  • few course offerings in modern lit in the english department
  • exhorbitant cost to attend; not worth your money
  • it's certainly not harvard; you're more often a student id number as opposed to a human being
