Date: Aug 03 2002 Major: Other (This Major's Salary over time) I hate Northwestern. I will never give money to this school. TAKE A SERIOUS LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE. While I had a great time in college, it had barely anything to do with the school itself. Northwestern cares nothing about its students. For being one of the most expensive universities in the nation, it gives absolutely nothing back to the undergrads who are spending so much money to go there. The professors are uninterested, boring and care only for their own research (which undergrads are hardly ever asked to participate in). The student groups are unsupported and ignored. The school offers the bare minimum of student services and even then, the services are minimally maintained or ineffective. It makes you think that the University only has them in place to be competitive with other schools, but not because they actually care about their students. For instance, the University is slow to act on matters of campus safety while more and more students are left to be assaulted. If it can, the University cuts costs at every corner. For example, if you are a part-time student, you are not allowed to use some of the facilities. Or if you are living on campus during the summer, but are not attending classes you can't use the medical center. Things like that which all contribute to the general feeling of apathy and indifference towards students. And last of all, the University refuses to pay property taxes to the city of Evanston, but of course utilizes all its services (police, fire, etc.) for free. This means that the residents of Evanston pay higher taxes. In the end, the students bare the brunt of the hostility to the University through parking tickets, parking permits, city services and being the target of resident's snide remarks. Students, in effect, must pay extra to make up for the University's irresponsible behavior. Please keep that in mind when you decide to spend the 30K per year.
