I am compelled to write because I have heard people say having a BJU degree did not hurt them in getting in to grad school. I received over 10 rejection letters because BJ was unaccredited. Being in the military, I did not have the choice of going to the schools that do accept BJU (such as Duke, Harvard, Yale). If you have total freedom over where you get your degree, go for it. However, if you are restrained by location, BEWARE!!! For the record, my problems were not only with the universities in my locations, but also the accredited distance learning institutions. The only reason I was able to attend the graduate school at which I received my master's was that, as they were typing a rejection letter, the office manager mentioned that her sister had attended BJ and that it was a good school (definitely God moving there!).

BJ will give you a solid, grounded, Biblical education; HOWEVER, you must be a mature Christian to attend and not become jaded by their guilt-laden diatribes on issues that detract from the Cross of Christ. If you are spiritually mature, want a good education in a Biblical setting, can handle LOTS of rules, can stand the stigma of being teased about attending BJU (FYI, I get it ALL THE TIME (probably out of jealousy some times)), and are prepared to go to grad school anywhere, go for it! Otherwise, consider less polarizing, restrictive, spirit-testing places.

responseJealousy? For someone who attended BJU? HA!

This is a strange review, probably the strangest one I have ever read for BJU on this site. The review shows the red Negative Review background and yet has positive notes about the place, like the author is still glad to have gone there.

You are absolutely right to warn about the lack of regional accreditation. BJU, in 2016 to my knowledge, finally broke down and sought regional accreditation, but it took a very long time for this to happen and it is NOT retroactive, meaning anyone who graduated in 2015 or earlier or even attended BJU 2015 or earlier has credits or even a degree that are practically worthless outside of South Carolina.

You're quite lucky to have gotten into that graduate school, then. Maybe it was God taking pity there, but who knows. I can't speak for Him. I disagree STRONGLY that you must be a mature Christian to attend. Many, many Christians the world over would find BJU absolutely unacceptable. Deep South white holy rollers will likely be more at home. I have read the modern-day student handbook and the regs I read are more invasive and restricting than those of VMI or West Point. When you get in people's business and their private lives more than a military college, you done messed up, A-A-ron. The only type of people who are really meant to be at BJU are the extremely white people who founded it. To think someone would throw away their college years at such a place.

responseThank you for sharing the details about the BJU and all these processes. While searching for the additional hints I found the amazing blog here with the details students want for the further actions.
