I like UC Santa Cruz. I think what they are trying to do is commendable, which is create an environment for progressive thought and experience. Yet, the school gets so bogged down in trying to be creative, fresh, cutting edge that at times it seems like it loses sight of the goal of higher education, which is to provide a solid foundation of knowledge for students to interpret and use in their everyday lives. Also if you are a middle class white male, Santa Cruz doesn't want you, I guess you don't have anything new or exciting to say. But if you fall into another socio-economic category, you will be delighted at the amount of attention your work receives.
