They really care about your Essay. Scores/Transcript are important, but essay and resume are equally important. Average SAT is 1300+ (out of 1600). Take the application seriously.


They've made things more competitive. Apply before Dec.1 to be considered for Scholarships. Don't make the mistake of applying after Dec.1. After Dec. 1 only Top 10% get automatically accepted-everyone else is individually reviewed. Engineering, Business, and Architecture School admissions are more competitive (they require more from you).

Ok: 3.0+/4.0
Considered: 2.5-2.99/4.0
Far fetch: lower than a 2.5

Preferred: 1200+ (M+V)/ 26+
Ok: 1000-1200 (M+V)/ 22-26
Far Fetch: lower than 1000 (M+V)/ lower than 21
Subject Tests considered, writing not shown to be important yet.

No Essay, but if you fall into the "far fetch" pool-send one anyways.

Crazy amounts of leadership/awards: Exceeded Expectations
Strong Participation: Preferred
Little Activity: Ok, if automatic qualifications are met
No activity: Far fetch (if automatic qualifications are NOT met)

Preferred: Top 10%
Ok: Top 20%

**Make sure to check the online automatic admissions qualifications. A lot of this is dependent on that.

When I applied to UH, they didn't really require an application essay, and my test scores were higher than the average. The only advice I can offer is that you apply early, and don't underestimate the people who are looking at your application (I know people who got rejected from this school because of that).
