fill out an application... emphasize your extra curricular activities in high school. gpa isn't that big of a factor any more...
My case won't be much of an help forSep 30 2005Economics
My case won't be much of an help for an ordinary American student because I am an international student.

I went to a community college for an year, and applied for an econ major with a GPA of 3.2. That's pretty low to get into an econ major at UCSD. I think the reason why I got into UCSD econ major is because I had a pretty good personal essay. I emphasized that I didn't speak any english at all before I came to the states, but I managed to finish my GE requirements in one year at a community college, and I talked about how hard working I am.

I'm pretty sure that you can get into UCSD if you talk about your special talent (or why you think you would be a great UCSD student) in the essay even if you don't have a high GPA or SAT score.

you might hear some criticism about UCSD econ major, but UCSD is afterall a great school, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it once you are here.

My gpa was just 4Sep 12 2005PreMed and Medical
My gpa was just 4.04, I got straight 4's on 5 AP tests, played lacrosse, volunteered at the library, interned at the hospital, did speech and debate, and graduated early. My SAT was average. I've heard of people with a LOT better stats not getting in, and I'm not exactly sure why I did. and I think the main reason I got in was because I was out-of-state.
I got a 4Apr 29 2005Biology
I got a 4.3 GPA in high school and a 1390 SAT and 5's on all 4 AP tests I took. Need I say more, I got in on scholarship.

This school is really about the numbers, I don't know how much they care about essays and activities in highschool.
ACT: 29 SAT: 1390 Male

I would not recommend even trying to get intoApr 22 2005Other
I would not recommend even trying to get into this school, but if you must, the easiest method is by transferring from a community college and using a guarantee program or a general education curriculum. Much easier than trying straightaway from HS unless you've got an incredible GPA, high test scores, and extracurriculars to die for. Another benefit to transfer from the two-year -- no testing!
