To get in I pretended to be the archtypal good student. In retrospect, I'd say to people applying, be yourself. My coming out of the closet sophomore year worked, but your changing who you are might not, so be yourself from the beginning. I applied to Pratt on a whim, not really expecting to get in. I submitted a short story for the portfolio that I had recycled from another college submission. The essay was written in a half hour before I clicked "apply". They got back to me incredibly fast and gave me a massive scholarship.
