I got a 2190 on my SATs (800 Critical Reading, 800 Writing, 590 Math). I got an 800 on my English Literature SAT II.

My school grades were "meh" (A's and B's, two C's from math/science classes).

I'm a journalism major, so I think my SATs and SAT II's helped a great deal. They saw that I could write, and they focused on that. My essay was great, and I got some good recommendations. Other than that, I just hoped for the best. I wound up getting a $10,000 per year Excellence Scholarship.

Northeastern really likes students who think "outside the box." They're big on "innovation." They want the leaders, movers, and shakers of tomorrow. For the most part, though, they want to see that you're a go-getter. They want to see that you're someone who takes initiative. They want to see that you're passionate; that you care about something. If you have a particularly strong interest, regardless of what field it's in, let that shine in your application. Show that you're dedicated to it, and that you're taking steps to learn as much as you can on your own and make new discoveries.
