Volunteering and community outreach is important to Marist, and I made sure that I was active in my community all four years of high school and was the secretary of our volunteer club. I also volunteered at a nursing home. I took the SATs twice and ACTs once (although Marist accepts either), just to see which I would score better on. I held leadership positions and focused a lot on my personal attributes (such as in my essay) because this campus really does value the individual and doesn't just look at numbers (but good scores don't hurt!)

To get into this school I would recommend having the focus of your essay not be entirely on school work. Students applying should show what they do when they are not at their high school. Grades and SATs will show up on your transcript so don't have your entire essay be about that. Make it so the admissions counselor can see you as a person and not a piece of paper.
