I was a transfer so it was easier. It shouldn't be hard to get in. Just be involved and visit.

Hofstra takes over half of it's applicants, which isn't a good sign. The kids here are idiots, and I feel like it didn't take too much for them to get in.

If you DO want to go to Hofstra, haveSep 30 2010Undecided
If you DO want to go to Hofstra, have a decently high GPA (go to www.collegeboard.com for accurate scores and compare yourself), take the campus tour, and write a good essay. For some reason people have the idea that Hofstra's hard to get into, but I see a lot of idiots here so I don't think it's too hard. One thing though; you should still really focus on your grades and submit accurate financial aid information, because Hofstra is EXPENSIVE as hell, about $45,000 a year depending on scholarships and aid. I was lucky to come from a well-off family and got a few scholarships, but a lot of people I know are drowning in debt after only one year, so work hard to get those extra scholarships. Apply for as many as you can find, and good luck.

Also, there are a few majors here that are better than others.

Hofstra has a great Business school, and a very good Law School. Their Drama and Dance program (I was a drama major last year) is top notch, and the closeness to NYC gives the students going for BFA's the opportunity to show their senior showcase in an off-broadway theatre in front of agents and other important figures. I also know a lot of people who are doing very well in the Political Science major. If you do want to go here, try and find someone to talk to in your intended major and get a feel of it from them, because I know there are some majors on campus that are NOT worth coming here for.

My ACT scores was good, but not amazing (28)Aug 05 2010Communications
My ACT scores was good, but not amazing (28). Where I went to school, we did not take the SAT, only the ACT. I was the president of my school's community service club and an editor for my high school's newspaper. I didn't play any sports, I was in a few honors and AP classes, and I had about a 3.6 GPA unweighted.
ACT: 28 Female
I know people who had very low GPAs IJun 07 2010Other
I know people who had very low GPAs; I guess after awhile they get desperate for students because lots of people don't come due to their financial needs not being met. Take lots of AP courses; if I had known about all of the money I would have saved I would have definitely taken some. I also suggest going to a community college and transferring in; it will save a lot of money.
